Genachowski: Broadband Everywhere Now

Making broadband Internet access universally available is this century’s version of building highways or extending railroads coast-to-coast, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission said Tuesday (pdf).
FCC head, Julius Genachowski, said there were three reasons to improve broadband deployment and adoption numbers:

Cell Towers Get Streamlined Approval Process

The five-member FCC unanimously agreed to give local governments 90 days to determine whether to co-locate an antenna on an existing tower and 150 days for new sites, says Fierce Wireless. If there is still no decision, then an applicant has 30 days to take the case to court.

T-Mobile: Faster HSPA Now

T-Mobile USA has announced the availability of their webConnect Jet, a 3G-enabled USB mobile broadband modem for laptop users that includes a built-in microSDHC memory card slot.

Verizon Raises Early Termination to $350

Verizon is raising early termination fees, notes Boy Genius Reports and Tech Crunch. On Novermber 15, it’s increased to $350 for “advance devices” only. VZW is no doubt targeting users who cancel their contract, pay the early termination fee, then flip it on Craig’s List for a profit.
