How Technological Advancement Has Changed the Way we Watch TV online
Watching Satellite TV on TV has become a matter of the past, or at least, for the older generation of folks out there. With most of us in the USA owning at least 1 personal computer these days, technological advancements have greatly transformed our laptops into our very own TV box or Internet TV. In the past , in order to watch satellite TV, one would have to do the following:-
- Install a 20-inch satellite dish called DISH 500, which allowed subscribers to receive a satellite TV signals from two satellite locations simultaneously . Slightly larger, 36″x20″ dishes (called SuperDISH) were also introduced with capability to receive satellite signals from three satellite locations at the same time . You could find yourself paying $99 for SDTV DVR receivers, and $299 for HDTV DVR receivers.
- Pay recurring fees every month . The introductory plans are certainly cheap, but they render only limited number of channels. Satellite TV service costs vary, primarily according to the channels that subscribers choose to pay for. You will find that certain plans can offer up to about 250 channels together with other features such as recording features and even broadband internet facilities. Both DirecTV and Dish Network (the two main satellite providers in North America) offer basic packages for $20 to $25 per month. Add-on options for HDTV, sports channels, movie channels, and so forth normally cost anywhere from $8 to $25 per month each (or come in season-long subscriptions for sports such as NFL football, NBA basketball game and so forth). Lots of bundles are available in the $30 to $55 a month range, but you can end up spending $100 a month or more on satellite TV services, especially if you like sports or movies, or both.
Alternatively……..
- Get your PCs ready for satellite TV live feeds using the PCTV card. As far as PCTV cards are concerned, there are generally 2 types available in the marketplace. Although both cards are installed differently, both result in successfull transmission of satellite channels onto your PC . One requires you to install the card within your CPU housing, meaning it is connected to your motherboard to utilize its circuit board architecture. This way is far more complex . But fortunately, if you are technologically challenged or just cannot imagine yourself dismantling your computer, then avail yourself of the second method, which is to install an external PCTV card . The external card can be connected to the computer via a cable to the USB port. Currently you will even find wireless versions of these PCTV cards . These PCTV cards used to be skyrocket high when they first entered the market but they have more or less stabilized and dropped over time . Nevertheless, be prepared to come up with at least $200 for a decent card to watch satellite TV on computer. Broadband is the norm nowadays . Running the card on dial-up internet connection could be challenging though not impossible. However, you will find that the TV reception is distorted delayed and interrupted and there could be a time lapse between picture and audio, ie poor synchronization. It is best that you have a broadband connection speed of 512 KB to watch satellite TV on computer smoothly .
Currently …………………
Thanks to technological advancement….. nowadays you can very easily enjoy satellite TV on your computer by using an Internet TV software. With that simple yet sophisticated software running, you can immediately enjoy thousands of TV channels from dozens of countries around the world .

VoIP An Inexpensive Alternative To The Norm
Today’s technologies are fast changing the ways that we communicate and one of these technologies is VoIP. The technology started to be utilized 10 years ago by big business. Since then it has gained popularity with small business and private users as well. It is fast becoming one of the cheapest and most widely used forms of telecommunication.
In the simplest terms VoIP is telephone calls that are made over the Internet versus traditional telephone lines. Again, one of the most popular characteristics of the technology is the relatively low price of the technology. Another advantage is that it has many capabilities. You can use Internet, multiple phone lines, and fax all from the same system.
The main reason that VoIP became so popular was the ability to make conference calls easily and cheaply. It is a feature that can be carried out by video with little limits on the amount of people that are able to join the conference call whether by voice or video.
The conference call feature is not something that has an extra charge attached to it as is often found when using traditional phone lines. These capabilities are also what are attracting small business. They have all the technological capabilities that larger firms would have but at the same price or less as a traditional phone line.
VoIP is not problem free. One of the most annoying issues is the fact that you can experience time delays in the voice relay as well as dropped calls. You do run some security risk as the system can be hacked into like any computer that uses the Internet. On the internet I read a nice blog site with having lot of articles on VoIP.
Another big obstacles is that the VoIP system will not function without an electric source. Traditional phone lines derive their power from the phone company and phone lines. This is not the case with VoIP but this, but other small obstacles are overpowered by the attractive price and ease of use.

No commentsCan I Watch TV on My Computer? You Bet You Can
Quick, do you spend more time in front of your computer or your television?
Did you have to think about it? Well, no matter what your answer, you can count on the fact that we all spend a LOT of time with one or both. So my next question would be, “why not combine the two? Yes, the ever changing technology rich world has given you new and exciting opportunities that allows you to answer the question, “Can I watch TV on my computer?” with a resounding yes.
If you are like me, you have spent a small fortune on cable, satellite, and pay per view bills during your lifetime. Cable companies can raise rates anytime they want and satellites seem to lose their signal every time there is a storm (not a good thing in Florida).
So what is the best way to watch TV on your computer?
Well, let’s take a look.
*Buy a TV tuner card- This card that you install in the back of your computer turns you computer screen into a television. The problem with this is you are limited to the signals you get with a terrestrial antenna. The other alternative is you can subscribe to your local cable service. You are really limited as to the good things you can see with this method and it defeats the purpose of getting TV on your computer in the first place; getting rid of the cable bill.
*Pay per download-Paying your hard earned money to watch shows that aren’t live also defeat the purpose.
*IPTV-This is when shows are streamed straight over the internet to your computer. However, again you will be saddled with a monthly bill that we are trying to avoid.
*Software-Okay, here is what we are looking for. With the right software, you can watch steaming live television on your PC. The best software is Satellite based so you are watching satellite TV without all the interruptions in service. You are able to watch thousands of channels and the best part is you can get it for no monthly fee. When you have satellite software, you can do what I did and head to your favorite electronics store, buy an HDMI cable and hook your computer up to your TV. Now, you can watch satellite TV free on your big screen for the rest of your life!
Watching stations from around the world, live sporting events no matter what time of day, and paying no monthly fee are enough to make this decision a no brainer. Flip the power switch and let’s start doing what we do best!
